The Untold Story of Jacinto

Once upon a time, a young farmer boy was walking his cow on the beautiful, tropical island of Puerto Rico, when a storm blew over out of nowhere. The boy could barely see his hands in front of his face from the wind and rain, and lost grip of his cow's leash. As he stumbled around the northwestern corner of the island, he came across a massive hole in the rocky ground below him. Unable to see, the boy fell into the hole and was washed away, never to be seen again.
Such is the story of El Pozo de Jacinto, and how this huge hole was named after the boy. While there is little proof or backing that this story is a true historical story, the name stuck.

The legendary hole that Jacinto supposedly fell into
This rock formation is located in the city of Isabela, in the northwestern corner of the island.

This is the primary attraction in the area, and for good reason. It is pretty spectacular to look at, and photos from the ground definitely do not do it justice. Here is some footage I captured using my DJI Air 2S:
Now, while this is certainly a cool spot, the rest of the beach in Isabela is stunning as well. The beach is clear with little trash and hot sand, the boardwalk extends over the top and gives you amazing aerial views, and the water is some of the bluest you'll see!
See more of it below!
To get to this spot, I would highly advise taking care in where you park. The highway that runs along this side of the island is very crowded, and is a road with only two lanes (one in each direction). With people crossing the street, speed bumps and potholes, and slim roads, it's probably going to take you a while to get to your destination.
Look for signs in the area telling you where the Pozo de Jacinto is located, and then avoid the parking spots at these areas. These are privately owned and you will be charged a lot just to go to the beach. To avoid that, look for the spots that are located farther east of the spot:

If you are able and willing to walk a bit, I would highly recommend looking for parking in the area I circled above. Here, you will find plenty of free parking on either side of the road. Please note that the parking is public and simply on the side of the road, so it may not be in the best condition. Additionally, you might find yourself scraping the bottom of one (or both) of your bumpers, depending on your car and where you decide to park. However, it is still better than paying a high fee to be at virtually the same spot, with no safety or additional security measures for your vehicle.
Parking in the area highlighted above allows you to park right next to Isabela beach and walk along it. There is a ladder on the boardwalk above that takes you straight to the Pozo de Jacinto, as you can see in my YouTube video.
Now that you know where to go for a spectacular beach on the northeastern part of the island, click here to read about how you can bring a drone here from mainland USA!
